Activities

Scientific expeditions and tours.

By joining us in the Amazon rainforest, you will be directly contributing to meeting our goals of bringing Environmental Education to schools and, of course, to discover and describe many new species and ecological interactions.

Scientific expeditions are meant to discover and document the biodiversity of poorly known regions in the Amazon. They are always led by researchers and open to students, volunteers and travelers interested in science. During these expeditions we will employ many different sampling techniques, including setting up light-traps to atract nocturnal invertebrates or mist net traps to monitor bats. By participating you will gain invaluable hands-on experience in an authentic research-focused setting.

Our tours can be more relaxed and yet designed to allow you to fully immerse yourself in the rainforest, a life-changing experience. They will offer you a chance to witness the incredible biodiversity of the region, and to experience its breathtaking environments.

With both our expeditions and tours we offer an array of activities to cater to all interests and experience levels. For instance, whether you are sampling with us or on a tour, you can take a captivating night walk and witness a diverse range of species, from amphibians and reptiles to spiders, whip scorpions, and stick-insects. Our knowledgeable guides and researchers ensure a safe and educational experience for everyone, allowing you to get up close with these incredible animals.

You can as well experience the rainforest in a whole new way during the rainy season with a  boat trip through the flooded forests. You'll be amazed by the breathtaking view of the tree canopy and you will spot beautiful species such as orchids and bromeliads flowering.

Currently, customized experiences are available. We can plan an expedition, short excursion or tour, according to your interests and goals. Contact us to know more about it. Our first expeditions will be announced soon.

Technical and Naturalist courses.

These include photography and illustration courses as well as diverse sampling techniques for a wide range of wildlife (e.g. Malaise traps and light traps to assess invertebrate diversity, mist nets and sound monitoring for bats and birds). More information on programs and dates will soon be available.

Environmental Education.

We will focus our resources on bringing environmental education to schools, in cooperation with teachers and initially in Manaus. We want to help with dispelling myths and fears starting with the younger generations. You will be soon able to read about them in our blog.

Donations.

Do you want to further help us with our mission? Then, donating is a very important way of contributing to meeting our goals of preserving and stuyding the Amazon rainforest. The entirity of donations are invested in environmental education at schools, scientific activities (e.g. species discovery) and in creating quotas for local students to take part in otherwise paid activities.

At the moment you can donate through PayPal (info@igapo.org).

Stay up to date!
